House Challenge Day
On Friday St Joes celebrated House Challenge Day. All students got to dress up and go through a rotation of 6 activities in the morning to earn house points. Well done to Ngaio(Green) House for taking out the first challenge of the year!!!

Kitchen Chemistry - Lollie Experiment
The past two weeks in Room 1 we have been putting a range of lollies in different liquids to see what would happen to the lollies. We used
- Gummy Bears
- Kool Fruits
- Vinegar
- Water
When we put the Gummy Bears in Water and Vinegar they expanded. When we put the Kool Fruits in the vinegar and water it dissolved.

Magic Caterpillar Handwriting Programme
The Junior Syndicate have introduced a new handwriting program over the past couple of weeks. Our handwriting programme is based in the Magic
Caterpillar Handwriting Programme.
This programme is based around a shared story following the adventures of Casey the
Caterpillar and the friends she meets along the way. Throughout the story, the
children are introduced to different shapes that, when put together in different
combinations, form the letters of the alphabet.
The students in Room 1 have been working hard learning the names of all the shapes and putting our letters together. They had some amazing results in their work. These photos and videos give a glimpse of what a handwriting lesson looks like in Room 1.
This photo shows the story of the butterfly who lays an egg and eventually turns into a large caterpillar. The students learn that the caterpillar can only get bigger by eating the leaves left to right and cannot go backwards on the line/branch.

St Patrick's Day Fun
On Friday Room 1 were lucky enough to have Mrs Stanley for the whole day whilst I attended my farewell at my old school. The students told me excitedly on Tuesday morning that they got to eat chocolate and go on a Leprechaun Hunt. The Leprechaun's also came to visit the classroom and left magic dust all over the classroom! Thank you Mrs Stanley for a wonderful day.

Measurement
Room 1 have begun learning about measurement. We begun by making worms of all shapes and sizes to learn new vocabulary such as; long, skinny, tiny and fat. These were fantastic words to describe our worms. This picture shows Room 1 in action and there are videos to follow of the students explaining their worms with new vocabulary.

Inquiry Fun
Today saw the students participating in another experiment to see what would happen if we mixed certain ingredients together. The outcome was amazing!

Certificates and Wheels Day Prizes
What a fantastic line up it was for Room 1 on Friday. Two students came award with certificates and 3 students came away with a prize for putting in the effort and wheeling or walking to school last week! Well done Room 1 students!

Inquiry - Making Butter
Room 1 had the amazing experience of making butter and then eating Fairy Bread on Wednesday. The children thought it was so cool how we turned cream into butter!
